Shortly after meeting in New York City in June of 2019, Holly Holtz took Kevin Yuen to the Vineyard to show him the place she grew up spending summers with her family. Soon, they fell in love with each other – and the Island. In 2020, the couple moved here and in 2022 got engaged. “We wanted to get married on the Island to honor what a special place it’s been for us in the first chapter of our love story, as well as the beginning of our new chapter,” Holly said.
Two weeks before their June 15, 2024 wedding day, Holly and Kevin were scrolling TikTok when they came across a unique guestbook idea: a Lego board where guests made themselves in the form of the iconic figurines.
They had to have this at their wedding. With little time left, the couple got straight to purchasing supplies. “We went to a Lego store off-Island and scoured the internet for packs of unique Legos,” said Holly. This included 200 Lego heads plus a variety of torsos, legs, and hairstyles. They also purchased outfits, such as sports jerseys, denim jackets, and mermaid tails, as well as tiny accessories, such as croissants, wine glasses, cameras, and guitars.
“We also collected special accessory items related to our vendors’ specialties,” said Holly, including a boom box for DJ Smooth B, a violin for musician Wesley Morris, and a chef hat for chef/caterer Galen Sampson. A bride and groom Lego set completed the look.
Holly estimated that the whole project cost around $500.
“To this day, the guestbook is still talked about by many of our friends and family. We had every age group at our wedding…so it was a really engaging activity to make sure everyone had fun,” said Holly.
