Casey & Nick

An Edgartown wedding with springtime flowers, disco balls, and smiles all around.

It was an instant connection between Casey Youngentob and Nick Tocchio when they matched on a dating app in 2019.

After two dates within a week, their relationship quickly flourished as they bonded over their love of travel, reading, and running.

The couple, who live in Boston, frequently visited Martha’s Vineyard while they were dating. So, when it was time to plan a wedding, Casey’s father brought up the idea of doing it on the Island. A private rental home in Katama was the first and only venue they visited, and they immediately fell in love with the intimate space and spectacular view.

When planning the aesthetics of the celebration, the couple’s main goal was to make people smile. That directive influenced nearly all of their choices, from a selection of vibrant springtime flowers to the disco balls and checkered dance floor that decorated the tent. “What I told our florist was that I just want as many colors as possible and for people to smile when they see them,” Casey said.

Through her own research, Casey came across a pressed-flower cake that their baker, Val Stoyer of Val Cakes, had created. Casey immediately knew she wanted it for her own wedding. This, in turn, led to her making pressed-flower displays for the table numbers. “I’m not the most crafty person,” Casey admitted,“but I had a lot of fun making the table numbers and that’s mostly because I just couldn’t find something that I liked so I thought I would make it myself.”

Other DIY elements of the day included personalized notes for each guest that served as their escort cards, as well as a guestbook featuring photographs Casey’s father had captured of the Vineyard. She also made Nick a scrapbook detailing the journey of their relationship as a wedding gift.

Having twenty months to plan proved super helpful to the couple, as nothing felt rushed. Because they used local vendors, appointments coincided with the handful of days they were on-Island. “It was so cool to see our whole team work together so flawlessly,” she said. “They all knew each other and had worked together before. They knew what to expect from each other and how to problem solve together, if necessary.”

Their goal of seeing smiles on guests’ faces came true as Casey and Nick celebrated the start of a new chapter.

“We took a moment to step outside of the tent and when we looked back in, we saw literally everyone on the dance floor having so much fun,” she said. “It was so cool to stop and appreciate that everyone was there to celebrate us and was having an absolute blast doing so.”
