Meghan McAneny has made many fond memories over the years of summers spent at her family’s home in downtown Edgartown. When she began dating Pat Curtis, she naturally introduced him to the Island she loved. So, it was no surprise that when they got engaged in October 2022, they decided the Vineyard was where they wanted to be married.
The venue selection was an easy choice too. About ten years ago, Meghan drove by the Allen Farm in Chilmark when a wedding was underway and immediately fell in love with the scene. “Does it get any better than a farm on a hill overlooking the ocean and beach?" she remembered thinking. But before securing a date at the farm, Meghan made sure she could book a welcome party at her favorite Edgartown restaurant: Atria. “Every time I walked by and there was a wedding or an event, I loved that it was happening under the twinkling stars…. It just felt so quintessentially Edgartown.”
With sites chosen for their two main events, and wedding planner Patrie Grace of With Grace on board to help with logistics, the couple’s vision for their weekend began taking shape. “We loved the idea of our guests seeing the different sides of the Island, and on different days,” Meghan said. “We hoped [they] would feel both the history and beauty.”
They held an intimate religious service at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Edgartown on Thursday afternoon, followed by a family-only dinner at the McAneny home. The garden party-themed welcome gathering at Atria on Friday night paid homage to the bride’s middle name – Rose – and included bud vases of soft white and pink flowers scattered around the patio and lawn as well as a red rose display on the swing in the front yard crafted by florist Aubrey Sirois of Aubrey Maria Designs/Donaroma’s.
Perfect weather arrived in time for the Saturday afternoon wedding ceremony at Allen Farm. “Swans literally swam by while we professed our vows,” Meghan recalled. “It could not have been a more magical day.” Inside the tent, blue and pink accents found in the tablesettings and arrangements added to the “timelessly coastal” vibe of the day.
Having been married on the Vineyard makes Meghan and Pat look differently at their already-familiar surroundings: as they walk through downtown Edgartown or even in Meghan’s family home, they both have flashbacks of their favorite weekend. “The entire Island is now sprinkled with memories,” Meghan reflected, “and it’s part of the history we share with it.”
