When it comes time to plan a wedding, it’s often best to bring in the experts. Thankfully for Meghan Gosselin and Anthony Capobianco, they didn’t have to look very far. Meghan is the senior meeting and events manager at KG Events & Design, a wedding and event planning company based on Martha’s Vineyard, and Anthony is the assistant general manager at Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs, a popular venue.
But, years before there was a wedding to plan, it was the summer of 2014 and Meghan was living in Northbridge, Massachusetts. She came to the Island to visit her sister, Kristen Gosselin, founder of KG Events & Design. Kristen brought her friend Anthony along to a group dinner, and the next day they all went to Norton Point Beach in Edgartown.
That summer, Meghan and Anthony established an easy rapport. “We enjoyed a lot of the same things,” Anthony said. “She played golf, so we played golf together.” In the fall, the friendship evolved into romance. Seven years later, during a ski trip in Vermont, Anthony proposed.
As the couple began to plan their Island wedding, they drew on their professional experience. They selected St. Elizabeth’s Church in Edgartown for their ceremony. Farm Neck was a natural choice for their reception: Anthony knows it inside and out and they both appreciated how the golf course acted as a verdant blank canvas.
This clean slate allowed Meghan to work her planning and designing magic. “So many weddings on the Island are blue and white or green and white,” she said. While she respects that aesthetic, it wasn’t right for them. “I wanted to have more of our personality come through,” she said. That meant warm colors: in the tent, there were red and orange flower garlands and woven light fixtures over tables decorated with floral arrangements of pink and peach dahlias and snapdragons.
Even though she plans events for a living, Meghan knows that not all details can be orchestrated in advance. On the evening of their wedding, an “outrageous sunset” made an appearance. “I think the entire tent emptied out” to see it, she said.
Especially after her own experience, Meghan encourages couples planning their Island weddings to bring in the professionals. Without them, the bride and groom wouldn’t have been able to be fully present. You don’t want to be thinking about whether you have enough ice at your wedding, she said. “You have to be a guest at your own event.”
