Coastal Charm

A styled photo shoot emphasizes how incorporating seaside elements into a wedding day can make for an elegant look.

When you think of Martha’s Vineyard, it’s hard not to think of the ocean. Which is why it is no surprise that when many couples plan a wedding on the Island, they often incorporate an aspect of the beach into their day – be it the location for first-look photographs, the backdrop of the ceremony, or the theme for the reception’s décor.

For those who want to achieve a seaside vibe without adding the actual element of the water into the day, Britt Jones, founder and lead designer of Britt Jones Co., has some advice. “Focus on abstracting the environment into tangible design elements...that speak to the coast without being too literal,” she said. “This approach allows the coastal theme to be felt rather than seen directly, creating a more elevated and unexpected effect.”

To highlight this, Jones styled a photo shoot at Watchmere, a rental property in Edgartown from Kane International Realty, that demonstrated ways couples can evoke coastal charm – from soft blues, greens, and tans to nautical stripes and shell motifs – into their Island wedding.
