Amity means friendship, but for movie buffs Katie Aucoin and Philip Daley, it means much more than that.

The couple, who live in Florida and met while working for Universal Studios, started dating in 2019. “Both of us have [had] a connection to Jaws from a young age,” said Philip of the movie that takes place on fictional Amity Island, filmed on Martha’s Vineyard in the summer of 1974.

Naturally, Martha’s Vineyard has always been on their bucket list for vacation spots. After dating for four and a half years, Philip planned the trip knowing it would be the perfect place to ask Katie to be his wife. He booked it for September 2023 and, wanting to capture the special moment, started researching photographers. “I ended up coming across Maria Thibodeau’s website, and really liked her work,” he said.

With the photographer hired, the next step was finding a location. “I wanted to use a filming location as the backdrop to our proposal,” said Philip. He settled on the jetty next to Jaws Bridge.

The couple spent the day visiting the various filming locations, which included the jetty. “This gave me the chance to get familiar with the location prior to the proposal,” he said, adding: “My excuse for visiting the jetty a second time that evening was that I had always seen posts online of how beautiful the sunsets are at Jaws [Bridge] and I wanted to get some photos.

“We walked down the jetty and…I got down on one knee and asked Katie to marry me,” Philip said.

Katie said yes. A March 2025 wedding in Las Vegas is planned.
