Meet Our Cover Stars: Ana & Adam

An outdoor wedding with a Cape-and-Vineyard vibe to tie it all together.

On a cloudless 70-degree Saturday in September, 150 guests gathered on the rolling hills of Chilmark to celebrate the love and marriage of Ana Driggs and Adam Rodrigues.

“It was the most perfect day, with the most perfect person, in the most perfect place,” Ana said when reflecting on her wedding at The Beach Plum Inn. But the best part of their wedding, she said, was the fact that it happened at all.

A series of unfortunate events, from the bride being hospitalized for kidney stones three days before she was supposed to travel to the Island from her home outside of Boston, to missing a ferry, to getting readmitted to another hospital for a kidney infection, and then finally making it to the Island only to be on the receiving end of a hit and run after dinner one night, nearly upended months of planning.

“But I was okay, and once I was out [of the hospital] I was just excited to marry Adam,” she said.

Originally from Franklin, Massachusetts, Ana and Adam met in high school at their local YMCA. They dated through college and made it a tradition to travel to the Vineyard for long weekends. Then in May of 2017, while posing for pictures in front of the Gay Head Cliffs lookout, Adam asked Ana to be his wife. “I always knew I wanted to get married on the Island, and when he proposed there that sealed the deal.”

The Beach Plum Inn was her ideal place to marry her high school sweetheart. The couple snapped first-look pictures inside a magical sunflower garden, said “I do!” in a seaside ceremony, enjoyed local oysters (well, Ana did), took photos in a mint-green VW bus, danced under the stars, and crushed late night doughnuts and apple fritters from Back Door Donuts.

“I always wanted an outside wedding. I love being around flowers, and I love that Cape-and-Vineyard vibe of bright colors and pinks and greens and gold; that’s what I’m a sucker for,” she said.

The couple hired KG Events & Design to assist in planning, which, Ana said, was one of the best decisions they made, especially because they planned the wedding remotely and had so many obstacles leading up to the big day. She credits her wedding planners for pulling off a flawlessly scheduled weekend. However, her advice to other future brides is quite fitting: it’s okay if the unexpected happens, just stay optimistic.
