Meet Our Cover Stars: Erin & Nelson

A day filled with lots of celebrating and meaningful touches.

Erin Jones and Nelson Geter were engaged on a Friday night, and by Monday Erin had pretty much secured an August 2018 wedding date at Atria in Edgartown. Which is to say that despite the logistics, there was absolutely no hesitation about Martha’s Vineyard nuptials for the couple.

Erin grew up vacationing on the Island with her family, memory-filled trips during which her parents would enjoy fancy date nights and wok-fried lobsters at Atria while Erin and her sister stayed at home. “So Atria was this, like, untouchable place for me,” Erin said with a laugh. “To get married there was the ultimate dream.”

As with the venue, Erin had a clear vision for her wedding: lots of celebrating and lots of meaningful touches. Her planners, Barbara and Corinne Edelin of Boston-based B. Edelin Events Planning, helped her execute that vision. Erin wore her mother’s veil, incorporated her late great-grandmother’s love of Scrabble into the place card settings, and arranged for a live cigar demonstration for Nelson, a cigar aficionado.

Their chosen wedding colors – burgundy and blush – were also representative of the couple. Burgundy served as a masculine nod to Nelson and an ode to his alma mater, Morehouse College. Blush was meant to express Erin’s femininity. Though she initially worried that the colors didn’t blend well together, in the end Erin said she was thrilled with the look.

The couple is based in California and knew that getting their guests to the Vineyard for a long weekend in August would be neither easy nor economical, so they wanted people to make the most of their time. They called on Erin Huckins from Point B Realty in Edgartown to serve as a concierge, helping 150 guests get to the Island seamlessly.

“She was a legit lifesaver,” said the bride. “We had a website, which was helpful, but being able to direct people to her with questions and logistics saved my sanity.” And they packed the whirlwind week leading up to the wedding with events: a welcome barbecue in her family’s backyard, a bridal shower, and a rehearsal dinner.

“It was exhausting,” said Erin, “but worth it to spend the most amount of time with people who traveled all this way and spent all this money to celebrate with us.”
