Vivian Christine Carlson and Benjamin Colby Powell had been together for a year and a half when the pair took a walk to the Edgartown Lighthouse and Benjamin asked Vivian to be his wife. Benjamin had orchestrated every detail in advance with photographer Mila Lowe, who was waiting by the lighthouse, trying to remain inconspicuous until it was time to snap the proposal. But you know what they say about the best-laid plans. Vivian spotted Mila and asked her to take the couple's photo. Benjamin burst out laughing, then after a few minutes dropped to one knee.
Benjamin’s connection to the Island runs deep. His extended family owns a house on Hines Point and has been coming to the Island for at least four generations. For Vivian, the proposal capped her first trip to the Island. Talk about a way to make a lasting impression. The couple married in March in Greenville, South Carolina, where they live.
