Brenna & John

September 27, 2014
Ceremoney: Old Whaling Church
Reception: Arrowhead Farm

Brenna Driscoll and John Coughlin’s story is a tale of two coasts. They both grew up on the East Coast and attended Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, but they didn’t officially meet until after college, in San Francisco, where they now live. Brenna works in marketing and John runs an account-management team. They wanted to be married on the Vineyard, where they have many special memories – and in September, when “it’s a little more low-key,” says Brenna. “We wanted the wedding to be a mix of the traditional with the bohemian.”

Brenna walked down the aisle in her mother’s vintage jewelry and a Monique Lhuillier gown. “I have never felt so much love and excitement,” she recalls. The black-tie dress code and avant-garde design elements of the reception were all the more elegant against the rustic backdrop. Tables were adorned with white taper-candles in chandelier candelabras and flowers arranged in vases with silver accents. Place settings included personal menus with guests’ names in calligraphy lettering. The couple had a custom-designed heraldry crest for printed materials – everything from save-the-date cards, to menus, to the matchboxes that were given as favors.

Brenna and John twirled around on the dance floor to Jackie Wilson’s “Higher and Higher” for their first dance. Late into the evening, the wedding party ate s’mores around fire pits. “The natural beauty of the Island is truly one of a kind,” Brenna says, which helped in creating a joyful celebration that entwined the couple’s East Coast roots and West Coast lifestyle.
