Perfect Palette

Wedding day inspiration with a painterly twist.

When true events inspire a creative work, it’s said that “art imitates life.” We think the opposite can be true of your Martha’s Vineyard wedding. Marry your true love where artists – including wedding professionals – are plenty, and let them compose the canvas that becomes your wedding day. In these pages, we’ve selected the work of three Vineyard painters to influence a palette of gorgeous blossoms and elegant metals and gems by Vineyard floral and jewelry designers. Together, you and your betrothed may find artwork to inspire your entire wedding, and it might just be the ultimate gift to each other – or to register for!

The Naturalist

The Vineyard’s natural beauty is your muse no matter what the season. As a couple, you enjoy exploring the Island’s great ponds from a tandem kayak and picnicking in some secluded cove. Autumn’s Turn by painter Paul Beebe of the Louisa Gould Gallery in Vineyard Haven inspires a fall wedding. The neutral colors of golden sea grass and green vegetation conjure thoughts of a vintage gown and bridesmaid dresses. Farmer and floral designer Krishana Collins of Tea Lane Farm in Chilmark utilizes her own Island-grown lisianthus, wild grasses, and other textures. Ronni Simon of Simon Gallery in Vineyard Haven selected jewelry from her collection of woven gold wire with fresh-water pearls and gemstones. Overall, a delicate combination that harmonizes with the environment.

The Stylist

Your Bold color makes the best statement for your relationship. Deep blues and greens resonate with the Island’s natural beauty. Whether you are musicians, in the movie industry, or just love the creative arts, you style your world – and your wedding – with individuality. Wendy Weldon’s painting Sanding Again from Edgartown’s North Water Gallery evokes the sounds of live music at your tented reception, where jewel-toned décor expresses the vibrant passion you have for life together. Floral designer Lynda Dandeneau of Dandeneau Flowers in Vineyard Haven used classic blue hydrangeas as her starting point, adding feathers, leaves, grasses, and succulents for a striking effect. Jeweler Stefanie Wolf of Oak Bluffs makes custom pieces and uses glass tile beads to fashion his-and-her bracelets and three-strand “trilogy” necklaces for bridesmaids. This eclectic mix of materials and strong colors expresses originality.

The Minimalist

You are drawn to sleek lines, geometric details, and rich color. Your style is clean and simple and has a strong visual impact, much like Kenneth Vincent’s painting Settled In from the Granary Gallery in West Tisbury. The mood of the cool skies and serene water brings back memories of sailing together on that first date. Floral designer Sarah Stock of Cottage Garden in Edgartown had a vision for simple green hydrangeas with pops of sunset-colored dahlias and zinnias in shades of pink and purple. Jewelry designer Kenneth Pillsworth of Vineyard Haven combines brushed metals of titanium, sterling, and anodized aluminum with freshwater pearls to create wedding rings and bridal gifts. A modern look for an innovative couple.
