The Chilmark Community Center – long known as the most affordable wedding venue on the Island – recently raised its rates from $400 to $1,000 per day for town residents, and $2,000 for nonresidents. The committee that proposed the change said it opted to do so after reviewing prices at similar venues throughout the Island. In West Tisbury, selectmen have denied the Agricultural Society’s request to raise the number of weddings allowed there from six to eight per year. Weddings at the Agricultural Hall are in high demand, with many couples securing one of the six spots more than a year in advance.
