Jessica & Evan

Jessica and Evan's wedding wasn't casual, but they still wanted the atmosphere to be fun and laid-back.

Jessica Fluharty freely admits that planning the details of her wedding to Evan Wimmert was not her favorite part of the process. “Up until maybe six months before the wedding, we had little idea what we wanted the wedding to look like,” Jessica said.

The one thing they were sure of from the moment of their engagement was that the wedding would take place on Martha’s Vineyard. “The idea of doing it anywhere else didn't even cross my mind,” she said.

Growing up, Jessica and her family would visit her aunt and uncle on Chappaquiddick, so they chose to rent a house there for the wedding week. A quick ferry ride away, the couple decided on the Dr. Daniel Fisher House on Main Street in Edgartown for the ceremony and reception. Once they had the main details in place, they hired Plan It Martha's Vineyard to execute the rest. “For the overall feeling, we were just going for something classy, but relaxed,” said Jessica. “It wasn't a casual wedding, but we still wanted the atmosphere to be fun and laid-back.”

The Philadelphia-based couple carried their fun and relaxed vibe with them the day of the wedding as they rode the Chappy ferry to the ceremony. On their way, the wedding party and a few guests made a quick stop at the Quarterdeck for French fries. And then they remembered one crucial detail. While shopping at Portobello Road a few days earlier, they saw a wooden whale sign that they meant to purchase to use as a guest book. Evan made a last-minute stop, then it was time to head to the ceremony.

“We put a lot of thought into our ceremony music and were so happy with the way it came out,” Jessica said. “My uncle Chick married us and his speech was filled with personal touches.” As part of their interfaith ceremony, the couple followed traditions with a blessing of the rings and breaking of the glass.

Looking back, Jessica said that much of the wedding becomes a blur, so it’s important to “enjoy the process.” And while planning wasn’t their favorite part of that process, with the help of Plan It MV, Jessica and Evan were able to complete their vision of an easy-going, yet sophisticated celebration.
