Martha’s Vineyard was part of David Hedley III and Bryan Hancsin's story from the very beginning. The two met at an event at David’s parents house at Herring Creek Farm in July 2012 and immediately hit it off. Two years after their first meeting, David proposed at their home in Katama. He had already been making plans behind the scenes. “I had a couple of dates reserved at the Old Whaling Church before I proposed,” said David. “It’s such an iconic building.”

Back at home in San Francisco, where David is an investment banker and Bryan works in pharmaceutical marketing, the couple started crafting their vision. “David and I were quite particular,” said Bryan. “We hold the Island very close to us, so we wanted people to get a good first impression.” They hired Plan It Martha's Vineyard as their wedding planner, and chose to send fold-out save-the-date cards filled with details about the Island. Six months later, once guests had arrived, the couple hosted a family-friendly welcome barbecue with games like cornhole and giant Jenga.

After the ceremony at the Old Whaling Church, guests made their way to the reception at Herring Creek Farm, where the couple’s vision for their wedding was apparent in every detail. An H&H insignia adorned place cards and menus, while rope knots served as the base for table name cards. One of the couple’s favorite elements was the rustic center bar made of wine barrels and antique crates, designed by florist Krishana Collins of Tea Lane Farm. “Krishana was a big part of setting the tone and the vision and the atmosphere,” said David. “You could feel her vested interest.”

Following dinner and a blazing sunset, guests danced to The Sultans and David’s parents surprised the couple with a marching band. Friends and family members joined the marching band as it weaved its way through the tent. “It was one of my most favorite moments,” said Bryan. “We looked around and there wasn’t a person in their seat.”
