"Color Adventure" contest winners

Emily Donegan of Troy, Michigan, and her mother, Kathy Donegan of Charlton, MA, are the winners of the “Color Adventure” contest for a bride-to-be and her mother, sponsored by Martha’s Vineyard Island Weddings magazine and website and five Island businesses.
“I’m most excited for my mother,” Emily said about winning the contest. “[She] is an incredibly selfless and compassionate woman who has been fostering children for the last 10 years. In the past year and a half, she has taken on the specialty of caring for infant babies with severe trauma and never goes a day without changing diapers or getting a full night’s sleep. If anyone deserves a luxury getaway, it’s her.”
The centerpiece of the contest is a day-long fashion consultation for two with Wendy Jacobs, whose House of Colour in Vineyard Haven offers color and style consulting (www.houseofcolour.co.uk/wendyjacobs). The mother-daughter getaway also includes two nights at the Fallon of Edgartown on North Water Street (www.thefallon.com), along with dinner at the Sweet Life Café in Oak Bluffs (www.sweetlifemv.com), dinner at Edgartown’s l’étoile restaurant (letoile.net), and a massage or facial by Chrystal Angelini & Associates (www.chrystalangelini.com).
Emily was raised in the Boston area and visited the Island with her family. “When my fiancé and I began dating after college, it became a very special place to us for quick weekend getaways, where we could relax and enjoy the natural beauty and peacefulness of the island. We knew that the Vineyard was the perfect place to exchange vows and begin our new lives together,” Emily wrote in her contest entry.
“I’ve been living in Michigan for the past four years, away from my family in Massachusetts, and unfortunately the two of us have missed out on a lot of the fun mom/daughter planning and bonding that accompanies a wedding,” Emily explained.
During their House of Colour consultation, Emily and her mother will learn which shades of white, ivory, or cream best suit the bride’s hair, skin, and eye color, along with the most flattering wedding gown style, fabric, silhouette, and neckline. They’ll also discover the best colors for make-up, mother-of-the-bride and bridesmaids dresses, flowers, and overall wedding color theme.
